How do I get started?

Install the desktop app, sign in, attach a resume or a job description, and open the panel before the call. The Free plan needs no card and covers a short session: enough to find out whether reading an answer while listening works for you.

Can the other side see it?

Not through standard screen or window sharing: the overlay is a separate always-on-top window that the capture surface does not include. It is not invisible in general. A camera pointed at your monitor sees it, some proctoring software that captures the whole display sees it, and a colleague standing behind you sees it. Treat it as private, not as undetectable.

Which meeting apps does it work with?

Any of them. Nothing joins the call and nothing plugs into the meeting app: the desktop app listens to your machine’s system audio, so Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Slack, Discord and a call in a browser tab all work the same way. If the sound comes out of your computer, it can hear it.

Do I need the desktop app?

Yes. A session runs in the desktop app and nowhere else: it captures the call from the system mixer rather than from a tab someone has to share, and its window stays above the meeting instead of behind it, where standard screen share cannot capture it. The dashboard in your browser is for your CV, your documents and your session history.

Can I wear headphones?

Yes. The desktop app takes the audio from the system mixer, before it reaches your speakers or headphones, so what you plug in makes no difference. Your own voice arrives through the microphone on a separate track.

Does it help with coding interviews?

Yes. It listens for the question like on any other call, and when a task is on the screen (an algorithm, a bug, a function to write), one shortcut captures it and the answer comes back as working code for that exact task, with its complexity. You can also type a follow-up into the panel mid-call.

Does it help with system design interviews?

Yes, with a mode of its own, and it is on the Hacker plan. Switch design mode on mid-call and the panel keeps a whiteboard beside the answer (the brief with the numbers, the architecture as a diagram, the data model) and redraws only what the last question changed, so the board grows over the whole round instead of starting again each time. You read the bullets out while the drawing arrives behind them, and the diagram copies out as Mermaid, for Excalidraw or any board that reads it.

Which languages does it understand?

Transcription handles English, German, Spanish, French, Hindi, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian and Japanese, and the answer comes back in the language the call is held in. The interface itself is translated into the first nine.

Does my audio go through your servers?

No. The desktop app holds the transcription socket directly, using a short-lived grant our server mints for that one session. The audio goes from your machine to the transcription provider and nowhere else: it is never uploaded to us, never stored by us, and a deploy in the middle of your call cannot interrupt it.

The finalized transcript, the questions that were detected, the answers that were generated, and how long the session ran. Interim transcription (the text that flickers and rewrites itself while someone is still speaking) is rendered and thrown away. Transcripts and answers delete themselves after 30 days; what stays is the session and how long it ran. You can delete a session sooner, and deleting your account removes all of it.

What does Free include, and what does Hacker add?

Free is thirty minutes of session time, given once and with no card: every model, as many documents as you like, and no cap on a single call until the half hour is gone. It is there to answer one question (whether reading an answer while someone is talking to you works for you), so it is not renewed each month. Hacker removes the limit and adds design mode, the system-design whiteboard: unlimited session time, billed by the week, the month or the year. Nothing to top up, no credits to count.

From Billing in the app, in two clicks. The plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, then drops back to Free. Cancelling deletes nothing you attached or recorded: you remove those yourself, whenever you want.

The desktop app runs on macOS 13 or newer, Apple silicon or Intel, and on 64-bit Windows 10 or newer. On macOS the first launch asks for Screen Recording permission: it is how the app hears the call's system audio and takes the screenshots you ask for with a shortcut, and your screen is captured at no other moment. The dashboard, where your resume, documents and session history live, works in any current browser.

Your resume, the job description and your notes go into every answer whole: nothing is shortened, summarised or picked from. So the panel suggests your projects, your numbers and your stack, not a plausible candidate’s.
One shortcut for what is on your screen
